Arrival in Managua

Each of the program students will take a turn updating the blog, and I got to set it up and start off with our arrival, so let me take a minute to introduce myself.  Hi!  I'm Margaret, a student at the University of Maryland in my second year in the school library media program.

So we are here in Managua after a long day of travel.  In spite of snow and illness, everyone made it here as expected, and we are comfortably installed in the Hotel Camino Real near the Managua airport.  We were welcomed with great enthusiasm by Jane Mirandette, founder of the San Juan del Sur Biblioteca, who had us on our shuttle to the hotel and checked in in no time.  We gathered by the hotel pool in the balmy evening and spent some time talking about the events of the coming days and our expectations for our stay in Nicaragua over some much-needed snacks.  Here's a photo of the weary travelers.

As we are winding down for the evening, everyone is taking some time to get in touch with family and friends back in the states and to catch up on email.

We're very grateful to Jane for her warm welcome and for making us all feel at home right away, and we can't wait for tomorrow, when we'll get to start exploring!
