Welcome to the blog for the University of Maryland iSchool's winter 2011 study abroad program in Nicaragua. We are a group of graduate students traveling to Nicaragua to learn about working in libraries there. Our destination is the San Juan Del Sur Biblioteca, the first public lending library in Nicaragua. We are accompanied by our professor, Dr. Ann Weeks, and two of the University's librarians, who have visited in the past and will be our mentors and guides on this exciting trip.
We will spend the next ten days working with Nicaraguan librarians, learning about the country, and helping out at the library and with the Biblioteca Movil project, which brings books to surrounding communities using their Library in a Box system. We are very excited to have this opportunity to learn about how the amazing people at the San Juan Del Sur Biblioteca do their work.
We will be posting new entries daily to tell you about our adventures in Nicaraguan librarianship, and we encourage you to follow along. Please take some time to learn about the Biblioteca and the other projects supported by the HJH Libraries for All Program.
